SUPREME COURT TO UNION IN KARNATAKA GOVT'S PLEA ALLEGING DENIAL OF DROUGHT RELIEF: 'BY NOW YOU SHOULD RESOLVE IT'

The Supreme Court in the case State of Karnataka v. Union of India and Ors was hearing the writ petition filed by Karnataka government wherein it alleged that the Centre was denying it financial assistance for drought management.

The Supreme Court in the case urged the Union of India to resolve the issue at its end.

The bench comprising of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan was hearing the matter.

The counsel, Attorney General R Venkataramani's request the court for time to file a reply to a state's objections to the Inter-Ministerial Central Team, IMCT report.

The bench headed by Justice Gavai stated that, 'By now, you should resolve it...',

In response, the Attorney General R Venkataramani responded to this wherein it is stated that there is some issue regarding interpretation of the law and after the Union assists on that, the Court may take a call.

Further, the bench of Justice Gavai stated that as to how much amount has been released to the state.
