Supreme Court Asks Centre: How Many Persons Declared As Foreigners Deported So Far?

The court pulled up the State of Assam for not initiating the process to deport foreigners, despite being aware of their nationalities, and questioned their indefinite detention in India.

The Supreme Court in the case Rajubala Das v. Union of India and Anr observed and has directed the Union Government to inform the details of persons declared as foreigners who have been deported so far to their native nations.

The court in the case asked the Union how it was proposing to deal with persons, who were declared as not Indian citizens but whose nationality was not known.

The bench comprising of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was hearing the present matter.

The bench in the case passed the said directions wherein the court was hearing the matter concerning foreigners' detention camps in Assam.

The court pulled up the State of Assam for not initiating the process to deport foreigners, despite being aware of their nationalities, and questioned their indefinite detention in India.
