Record Rs 3.33 Lakh Crore MSP Payouts in 2024-25: Centre
The Business Guardian
|July 24, 2025
The union government has disbursed a record Rs 3.33 lakh crore under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system for the 2024-25 season up to August 30, 2025, as the government agencies have procured 1175 lakh MT foodgrain on MSP from the farmers.
While providing these figures in the Lok Sabha, the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh asserted that the government has paid Rs 3.33 lakh crore in 2024-25, against Rs 2.91 lakh crore paid in 2020-21.
However, the quantity of foodgrains during this period has come down from 1368 lakh MT to 1118 lakh MT in 2022-23, 1089 lakh MT in 2023-24, and 1175 lakh MT in 2024-25.
The minister said that the MSP system ensures that farmers receive at least 50% return over the cost of production for 22 specified crops, as this policy has been a core part of government support to farmers since 2018-19.
