Puri, urban development stakeholders call for last-mile access to services, governance reform

A day ahead of the successful conclusion of India’s G20 Presidency on 30 November, a slew of recommendations and ideas for a roadmap on leveraging private finance for urban infrastructure development have emerged during a workshop aimed at bringing out the key learnings towards attracting private capital for urban infrastructure as India looks at delivering quality urban infrastructure for cities in a rapidly urbanizing world and weighs the role of private financing in developing cities of tomorrow.

The workshop organised in the context of the work done by G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) during India’s G20 Presidency, was led by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, in association with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri’s special address dwelt on the critical need to look to the future and focus on creating a holistic urban ecosystem for ensuring last-mile access to services, enhanced operational efficiencies, financial sustainability of projects, and integration of digital technology.
