Nokia Chennai plant produces 7 million telecom gears

Finnish telecommunications company Nokia announced a significant achievement at its Chennai manufacturing facility, where it has successfully produced 7 million units of telecom network gear. This milestone marks a testament to the plant's longevity, having operated for 15 years, and establishes it as one of Nokia's largest factories worldwide.

Nokia's Chennai plant plays a pivotal role in bolstering telecom equipment manufacturing in India. Among its primary manufacturing activities, the facility produces a range of telecom equipment, including 5G New Radio (5G NR) components, 5G massive MIMO products, 4G or LTE radios, and fiber broadband equipment, among others. Approximately 50% of of 5G telecom gear in India the plant's production is destined for international markets even before the official rollout of 5G networks in the country. This proactive approach has helped position Nokia as a pioneer in supporting India's telecom infrastructure.

Furthermore, Nokia has significantly increased the localization of components in its 5G equipment manufacturing, doubling the localization compared to previous years. This signifies a commitment to strengthening the domestic supply chain and reducing dependencies on external sources.
