Metro Brands leads the charge in sustainable footwear with recycling program

Tetro Brands Limited, one Lof f India's largest footwear retailers, has launched an innovative initiative to process old, discarded footwear (ODF) in an eco-friendly manner, addressing significant environmental challenges.

Since 2021, in collaboration with partners such as Recircle, Metro Brands has advanced national and global climate action goals, setting a new industry standard.
The rapid growth of the footwear industry has intensified climate issues, with millions of shoes ending up in landfills each year. Metro Brands and ReCircle, a clean-tech resource recovery innovator, are tackling this problem by processing discarded footwear in an eco-friendly way. Their efforts aim to reduce waste, lower emissions, promote a circular economy, and achieve self-sustainability with clear, quantifiable targets. In FY 2021-22, Metro Brands initiated a pilot project, processing 5% of ODF relative to new footwear sold. This increased to 25% in FY 2022-23 and reached approximately 50% by FY 202324, with ReCircle processing 1300 tons of ODF.
