Mamata Slams DVC and Centre for Floods in South Bengal
The Business Guardian
|August 06, 2025
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today visited Ghatal, a low-lying area in Paschim Medinipur district about 100 km from Kolkata which is suffering from extensive floods, and blamed the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), a Centre Government undertaking, for releasing water "indiscriminately" from its dams.
The Chief Minister directly blamed the DVC. She said: "The water that the DVC has released this time has broken all records. Why don't they dredge their dams?"
Mamata Banerjee claimed that if the DVC authorities had done dredging, the water storage capacity could have increased by another 10,000 cusecs.
The Chief Minister said: "DVC has not dredged for 20 years. DVC releases water indiscriminately. It doesn't think even once."
