LG Kavinder Gupta urges faster distribution of smart PDS cards in Ladakh

Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Monday directed officials to fast-track the distribution of Smart Public Distribution System (PDS) cards across Ladakh to ensure uninterrupted food security, particularly for citizens living in remote and high-altitude regions of the Union Territory.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the LG Secretariat, the Lieutenant Governor said the Smart PDS cards, which will replace traditional paper ration cards, offer a secure and durable digital system with electronic authentication features. These cards, he said, will streamline the delivery of subsidised food grains and essential commodities, while also serving as a multipurpose identification tool for accessing various government welfare schemes under the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) initiative.
