Jammu-Srinagar Highway shut for 4th day; Mughal Road reopens

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the lifeline connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on Friday due to multiple landslides and washing away of road stretches in Ramban and Udhampur districts.
Traffic authorities said the highway and Sinthan Road are blocked at several locations because of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, triggered by recent torrential rains and flash floods. The closure, they said, has left more than 3,700 vehicles stranded at various points between Kathua and Kashmir.
The highway had earlier remained shut from August 26, reopening briefly on August 30 before fresh slides forced another shutdown. In total, the road has been blocked for 10 days since the spell of inclement weather began.
