India's disability sector poised for $1 trillion boom

Pranav Desai, founder of the Voice of Specially Abled People, asserts that India's specially-abled population could actively contribute USD 1 trillion to the country's economy by 2047.

Desai, after meeting with top leaders in New Delhi, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP president JP Nadda, presented his vision document for the cause. The proposal, well-received in New Delhi, outlines a Tax Incentives Package designed to empower divyangjan (specially-abled persons) and jump-start economic activities for the disability sector. Desai also emphasized the strategic importance of transforming the disability sector from a welfare perspective to an economic growth standpoint. Discussions with government officials, including Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, centered on addressing accessibility and transportation issues for individuals with disabilities. Desai's vision document aims to improve mobility and active participation of the specially-abled in various sectors, proposing mandates for hiring divyangjan and exploring partnerships with organizations like the Adani Foundation for employment opportunities.
