India has launched a five-year UNDP-GEF-supported initiative to promote a circular economy in the electronics sector by ensuring safe e-waste management and sustainable resource recovery.
India has taken a significant step towards advancing its transition to a circular economy in the electronics sector with the launch of a five-year initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.The project aims to ensure environmentally sound management of e-waste, one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the country, by reducing hazardous material use, recovering valuable resources, and improving the availability of secondary raw materials in the electrical and electronics sector.India is currently the world’s third-largest generator of e-waste, and more than 80 per cent of it is processed in the informal sector through unsafe methods that
