India boosts coal imports by 27 per cent in December

India's coal import saw a significant surge in December, rising by 27.2 percent to reach 23.35 million tonnes compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Data compiled by mjunction services ltd, a B2B e-commerce platform, revealed this increase from 18.35 million tonnes in December 2022.
The coal ministry has set an ambitious target of achieving zero thermal coal import by the fiscal year 2025-26.
Of the total imports in December, non-coking coal imports accounted for 15.47 million tonnes, showing a substantial increase from 10.61 million tonnes in December 2022. Meanwhile, coking coal import volume stood at 4.84 million tonnes, compared to 4.71 million tonnes imported in the corresponding month of the previous financial year.
