Govt Rolls Out a Comprehensive Arsenal to Combat Drug Trafficking

The fight against drug trafficking has yielded staggering results, with over 337,000 kg of opium-based drugs and 1.7 million kg of cannabis-based drugs seized in 2022, according to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
As per a written reply in Lok Sabha's Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai outlined the government's multi-pronged strategy to curb the narcotics trade.
The report revealed an escalation in drug recoveries from 2018 to 2022 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Opium-based drugs saw a 67% jump, from 201,842 kg in 2018 to 337,169 kg in 2022.
