Chandigarh Women to Check Drinking Water Door-to-Door

The women teams will collect water samples and deliver them to the main lab of Water Workers located in Sector-39, where they will be chemically and bacteriologically tested. The test report will be handed over to the concerned citizens or officials within four working days.
In Chandigarh, the responsibility of going door-to-door to test water will now be given to women. This work is being done under the Municipal Corporation's "Amrit Mitra Yojana", which is a part of the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Res-ervation and Urban Transformation) scheme.
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar said that this is a unique and first-time initiative, which aims to promote women empowerment. He said that women have always played an important role in water conservation, so they have been associated with this scheme.
