BSNL 4G network to be upgraded to 5G within eight months

India’s indigenously developed 4G network of BSNL will be upgraded to 5G over the next six to eight months, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Sunday.

Speaking at the Kautilya Economic Enclave 2025, Scindia highlighted India’s entry into the global 4G club, previously dominated by just five companies — Huawei, ZTE, Samsung, Nokia, and Ericsson — from Sweden, Finland, South Korea, and China.
He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated 92,564 towers connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Bharuch to Arunachal Pradesh using India’s domestic 4G standard.
