Art of living conserves water
The Business Guardian
|November 08, 2023
India, a country heavily reliant on agriculture, is facing a severe water crisis, with many of its rivers drying up and groundwater levels depleting rapidly. Factors such as climate change, soil erosion, deforestation, and a disrupted hydrological cycle have contributed to this critical situation. This has resulted in a recurring cycle of floods and droughts, leading to crop losses and impacting the livelihoods of millions.

To address this pressing issue, The Art of Living, a nonprofit organization founded by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, has undertaken a significant initiative to make India water-positive. The organization has made substantial progress in rejuvenating over 70 rivers, their tributaries, and streams in five states: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. This ambitious project has led to a remarkable improvement in biodiversity, groundwater levels, crop production, and soil fertility, with a positive impact on land usage, labor employment, and farmer income.
