After demolition displaced residents of Govandi's Panchsheel Nagar to stage 7-day protest

In the aftermath of the recent demolition drive by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Govandi's Panchsheel Nagar, numerous residents, now left without homes, assembled outside the M/East ward office on Thursday to voice their protest against the authorities' actions.

The BMC initiated the demolition drive on Tuesday and continued the operation into Wednesday, targeting unauthorized structures constructed with tin. The civic body claims ownership of the land, asserting that the illegal constructions were dismantled to pave the way for a proposed civic hostel.

In response to the outcry, civic officials have requested a seven-day grace period to address the residents' concerns in writing. However, undeterred by this, the affected residents are preparing to stage a week-long protest at the site of the demolition.
