Police sarge arrested over inmate's escape from Caloocan jail

Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) arrested on Tuesday, June 10, a police sergeant over the escape of an inmate from the detention facility of a substation of the Caloocan City Police.

NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said the operation stemmed from the result of an accounting of Person Under Police Custody at the Caloocan City Police Substation 6.

Based on the result of the investigation, an inmate was able to escape on the night of June 8, but it was only discovered on Monday night.

A check on the record revealed that the arrested police staff sergeant was the duty jailer at that time. The cop did not report the incident.

The policeman was collared at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday on Samson Road in Barangay 8, Caloocan City, for alleged negligence.

“Immediate verification and investigation revealed lapses in custodial procedures," said Aberin.

Aberin said the policeman is now facing a case of violation of Article 224 of the Revised Penal Code (Infidelity in the Custody of Prisoner or Evasion through Negligence).
