'NANDO' INTENSIFIES AS IT NEARS PH

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Sept. 21, raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 over five areas in extreme Northern Luzon as typhoon "Nando" (international name "Ragasa") continued to rapidly intensify while moving closer to the country's northernmost provinces.
As of 5 a.m., PAGASA said Nando was 610 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 215 kph, moving northwest at 15 kph.
PAGASA said Nando may reach the super typhoon category within the day and continue intensifying before approaching extreme Northern Luzon.
