E-bike crackdown starts

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is implementing the crackdown against e-bikes and e-trikes today, Dec. 1.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said they would rather face their anger than compromise the safety of the majority of road users.
Lacanilao said the decision to impound all e-bikes and e-trikes on major thoroughfares will stay as he emphasized the danger they posed to other motorists and road users.
"We already anticipated that a number of our 'kababayans' will be angry. But our priority right now is not only the safety of the owners and passengers of these e-bikes and e-trikes but also other road users," said Lacanilao.
Motorists have raised concerns on the presence of e-bikes and e-trikes as they have no driver's license have no road safety education and training.
E-bikes and e-trikes have been involved in several fatal and serious road crashes.
In the provinces, children have been seen driving e-bikes and e-trikes on national highways.
