Youth Attacks Student Over Rejected Proposal

Incident raises concerns about student safety and law enforcement in rural towns

According to authorities, the victim, who resides at the Government Tribal Girls’ Hostel in Junnar, was on her way to college when the incident occurred. The attack reportedly took place near a tin-shed area behind Junnar Rural Hospital, a location frequented by local residents.

Investigators said that the accused, identified as Mahesh Damse, suddenly confronted the student and began striking her with the koyta. The attack caused panic among nearby passersby, who rushed to help the victim. She sustained serious injuries in the assault and was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors are working to stabilise her condition.
