No celebration yet for Leafe

ANTICLIMAX AS CLUB WON PROMOTION 4 WEEKS AFTER SEASON'S END

CHAIRMAN Kelly Waters admitted AFC Whyteleafe are yet to celebrate winning the Combined Counties League Premier South title but they do now have the trophy.

Leafe found out they had won the Step 5 league and with it, promotion to the Isthmian League last month, four weeks after the season finished.

Originally the Church Road-based club finished third but after both the teams above them - Jersey Bulls and Redhill were docked points for fielding ineligible players, Leafe were handed the title.

There is never a bad time to be promoted, but there is certainly an anticlimactic one.

"It was a bit of a weird one, wasn't it?" Waters offered.

"Because of the point deductions after it was all finished, we had already had our end of season party and awards do before we knew we'd won the league and then obviously everyone goes off on holiday.
