A man who handed himself in when he featured in a 'wanted' appeal after a city centre riot has kept his freedom.

Liam Wilde's picture was circulated, along with others, as part of a Northumbria Police campaign in February to trace people involved in the mass disorder in Sunderland on August 2 last year.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Wilde had been seen to throw a stone when protesters clashed with a police line in the city on that day.

Prosecutor Omar Ahmad said when Wilde saw his image circulated by the police as part of a media appeal in February he handed himself in.
