Taylor-made display for Harriers at Newburn

Six Sunderland Harriers took on the five-mile course at the Newburn River Run, hosted by Elswick Harriers, writes Kevin Carr.

The North East Counties Athletics Association five-mile Championships were held in conjunction with the race and it was a superb effort by Sunderland's Liam Taylor, who finished fifth overall and claimed the bronze championship medal in 25:52.

Craig Gunn was next home for the club in ninth place in a time of 26:43. Michael Rodenby (27:01) followed in 11th, Michael Barker (27:15) was 13th, Sam Thurlbeck (27:16) was 14th and Chris Newby (28:16) was 22nd, out of a field of almost 200 runners.

Linton Taylor (Leeds City) won the race, completing the course in 24:46. Sarah Attwood (Crook & District) won the women's title with a time of 30:16.
