Man convicted of assault has his fine written off

A homeless Sunderland man convicted of an assault had his £902 punishment written off by spending just 26 hours in police cells.
Mark Dagg, 47, attacked a woman at a transport hub in Sunderland city centre on Saturday, April 5, South Tyneside Magistrates' Court heard.
He pleaded not guilty at a court hearing two days later but was convicted in his absence when he failed to appear for his trial on Friday, November 14.
An arrest warrant was issued and Dagg was detained by police at 2pm on Sunday, November 16, and brought before a court around 10.10am the next day.
