City marks the highest rise in UK house prices over past year

House owners in Sunderland got a summer boost as the value of their homes increased.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show the average house price in the city in the year to July was £146,688 — a 3.6% increase on values in June.
The rise contributed to the longer-term trend in the area, which has seen property prices in the area grow by 12.7% over the last year.
