Charity's call to residents to help cut knife crime

A national crime-fighting charity is calling on residents in Sunderland to turn in people they know to be carrying knives.

Crimestoppers says it can guarantee "100% anonymity" in a new campaign which aims to crack down on knife crime and people carrying other weapons.

The dangers of young people carrying a knife are highlighted in the campaign - which also reminds young people they can speak up anonymously about criminal activity they see or know about, at Fearless.org.

Fearless is the youth service of Crimestoppers.

As a charity independent of the police, Crimestoppers is a safe, alternative way to report information on those carrying out crime.
