Inquest starts into death after Ladies' Day

AN inquest has opened into the death of a grandad after a suspected assault on Ladies' Day in Newcastle's China Town.

Simon Beston, 55, died on August 16 as a result of the serious head injuries he suffered in an alleged attack at about 10.30pm on July 26, on St Andrews Street.

Mr Beston was in hospital from the night of the incident until his death.

Northumbria Police officers believe that the group involved in the altercation with him had been at the Newcastle Racecourse event.
