|August 31, 2025
PEOPLE from the North East are among the most likely to speak a second language, a poll found.
Some 66% of Geordies can speak at least a little bit of a foreign tongue.
As might be expected, multicultural London and the Midlands are the parts of the UK with the most language skills, with 74% and 71% knowing another lingo.
The North East was third in the rankings from the MAKE A PONT Newcastle poll by AI language company DeepL, followed by Yorkshire and the Humber on 66%.

A bonafide masterpiece celebrating 60 years, Brian Wilson’s answer to Rubber Soul began a back and forth with The Beatles that inspired Sgt Pepper! Wilson’s mental health was deteriorating but a fortunate by-product was his obsession with sound, and he’d spent days in the studio transforming a surf rock outfit into Baroque pop originators.
