Warm words and promises running cold

SCOTLAND'S homelessness crisis has rightly been called an emergency by MSPs.

But giving the problem a label is not enough. What we need is action on social house building to bring the numbers down, rather than see them rise year after year.

This isn't just about rough sleeping.

It's about families stuck in temporary accommodation for years with children growing up in cramped hotel rooms without a sense of stability.

It's about young people sleeping on sofas until they run out of favours.

It's about workers who do everything right yet still can’t afford private sector rents or are evicted after losing their job.

It's about relationships ending and people being priced out of the market for a flat.
