REBEL'S ROMANCE gave Charlie Appleby a belated first winner at this year's Royal Ascot in the Hardwicke Stakes.

The seven-year-old was a 6/4 favourite for the Group 2 having won top-level races across the globe during his career.

The gelding raced prominently for William Buick who eventually sent him to the front turning for home.

He then stayed on strongly to see off the determined Al Riffa (4/1) by two lengths with Ghostwriter (5/1) third.
