Murdo wants an inspirational win to honour icon

MURDO MacLEOD is in a unique position to understand Wilfried Nancy's predicament as the Frenchman approaches today's Premier Sport Cup Final with St Mirren knowing some Celtic fans already want him out of his job.

Just seven days after Nancy had his first competitive match, against Hearts in the Premiership last Sunday.

Murdo once famously stood by and listened to radio callers demanding Wim Jansen's dismissal two games into their managerial partnership after a disruptive start to the season in which Rangers had the chance to win 10-in-a-row.

‘An away loss to Hibs then a home defeat to Dunfermline in 1998 sparked fury among the Celtic support, similar in intensity to the reaction which has followed Wilfried’s failure to win against the league leaders and Roma in the Europa League.

But Murdo, the man who twice cheated death from heart problems, has a sobering perspective on today’s Hampden final.

He said: “At the beginning of the week after we lost Dixie Deans, a Celtic great, I want to see and hear the Celtic support get behind Wilfried and the team in his memory.
