DEL'S FOUND PERFECT FIT
Sunday Mail
|October 12, 2025
HEARTS legend Gary Mackay insists Derek McInnes is in the perfect position at Tynecastle - and reckons there's real substance to the Jambos’ table-topping start.
Mackay says fans are right to be excited by their flying start under the 54-year-old backed by the investment of Tony Bloom.
McInnes had been heavily linked with Rangers as a replacement for axed Russell Martin.
But he quickly reassured club chiefs that he is committed to what he's started after leading Hearts clear after an unbeaten start and wins over Rangers and Hibs.
Steven Gerrard is edging closer to a sensational return to Ibrox.
And Jambos record appearance holder Mackay is praying that his appointment is made quickly to end any lingering doubts that Del might be tempted away.
He said: “Oh absolutely, were all hoping that there's an appointment made at Rangers and Derek's not approached for the job.
“You would hope Derek realises that where he is right now is the best place for him. Okay, that’s a selfish perspective from my point of view - because he’s the best person for us.
