Del: Hearts lacked basic instincts
Sunday Mail
|December 28, 2025
DEREK MCINNES insists Hearts need to "own" their painful derby defeat after admitting his team were punished for forgetting to do the basics.
The Premiership leaders left themselves with a mountain to climb after going 3-0 down inside 48 minutes. Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin strikes offered hope of another remarkable comeback, after they took a point from a similar position against Motherwell earlier this season.
But it was too little, too late and McInnes insisted the first-half display fell well short of his standards.
The Hearts boss said: "If we have two defeats in the next 19 games that we have coming up then we will have had an unbelievable season.
"It's important that we remind ourselves of that. We're not going to start saying we're all this and that when we win games.
