Appleby lays down law again in 2000 Guineas

- JOE REILLY

COURT IN SESSION

RULING COURT kept up Charlie Appleby's recent domination of the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The 9/2 chance was the best fancied of Team Godolphin's trio having absolutely bolted up in the Dubai version at Meydan.

William Buick was happy to bide his time on the three-year-old as Tornado Alert (50/1) and Scorthy Champ set the early pace.

The rider didn't react when stablemate Shadow Of Light (6/1) stormed past the fading leaders two out.

Buick got an enthusiastic response when he finally went for home a furlong out, powering past his rival in the closing stages.

The three-year-old then stayed on strongly to deny a late challenge from fast-finishing Field Of Gold (15/8 Fav).
