Clean-up bid foiled by 200 appeals

NEW rules aimed at cleaning up salmon farms of deadly sea lice have ground to a halt due to being swamped by industry appeals, a charity has claimed.

WildFish said fish farms had lodged more than 200 appeals in a bid to "thwart" new SEPA licence conditions designed to regulate sea lice.

The result, they added, is that the Scottish Government's Directorate for Environmental Appeals and Reviews (DPEA) is overwhelmed with thousands of documents submitted in these cases.
