Carter-Vickers insists Hoops will find groove in time to rescue faltering Europa campaign
-
where they've failed to find the net. Unbeaten Motherwell travel to Parkhead this afternoon knowing the Hoops haven't scored in their last two home outings and have been replaced at the top of the table by Hearts.
Incredibly, Celtic only failed to score in five games out of 57 across all competitions last season. But they've already matched that tally by the first week in October.
Now Carter-Vickers insists it's time to start grinding out results to arrest the slide.
He said: “You always want to score goals. It is something we are working on in training.
“We need to find a way to win without scoring two or three.
“Maybe that is winning 1-0, being tight at the back, keeping clean sheets and scoring the odd goal here and there to win games.
“That might be what we have to do for the next couple of weeks.
“At some point it will click and when it does hopefully we will be in a better position”
A fluffed summer transfer window has left the new-look Celtic frontline still trying to find their feet. Sebastian Tounekti has looked sharp while Kelechi Iheanacho is still getting up to speed through the middle.
But Michel-Ange Balikwisha has struggled to force his way into the side.
Carter-Vickers puts much of the struggles in front of goal down to a lack of time to gel.
He said: “Yeah, I think so. When new players come in it takes a while just to learn each other's games. That half a second can make a big difference because if I know what you are going to do I can time my movement perfectly.
“It can be the difference between scoring and not scoring”
Jens Berthel Askou’s Motherwell have yet to taste defeat in 12 games across all competitions and head to Celtic Park off back-to-back victories against Aberdeen in the league and cup.
Askou is targeting three points from the champions and Carter-Vickers is relishing the challenge from the Steelmen and table-toppers Hearts.
