FEARS Sean Clerkin has urged a national investigation. Inset, Ronan Point blast

- BY DAN VEVERS Chief Reporter

SNP ministers have been accused of “passing the buck" over tower block safety fears highlighted by the Sunday Mail.

We previously told how hundreds of Scottish tenants are living in Large Panel System (LPS) high-rise buildings which could be vulnerable to catastrophic gas explosions.

Residents and campaigners demanded an urgent national review after our probe, including structural work to strengthen ageing blocks and the removal of all mains gas supplies.

We also found inaccuracies in a 2020 Scottish Government report suggesting ministers do not know the scale of the issue.

But in a letter to activists, seen by the Sunday Mail, government officials brushed off calls for national action and said tenants should contact their landlords or councils.
