UK eyes new Canada deal to defy Trump

JUSTIN Trudeau's offer to resurrect trade talks gives the UK a small window in which to clinch major concessions, economists believe.
The beleaguered Canadian prime minister who resigned last month and will be replaced when his party chooses a new leader - extended an olive branch in light of President Donald Trump's harsh trade policies.
Trade between the UK and Canada is now worth £27billion, up 6.7% from last year.
Though both countries secured a continuity deal to roll over EU terms in 2021, hopes of signing off an upgraded Free Trade Agreement stalled last year after a gruelling 10 rounds of talks.
Ottawa failed to persuade London to relax its ban on hormone-treated beef while Britain objected to the 245% import taxes levied by Canada on British cheese.
