UK car price fears when tariffs kick in

MOTORING experts have warned that the 25% imported car tariff introduced by US President Donald Trump on April 3 could result in higher prices in UK dealerships.

A study by automotive consultancy firm Anderson Economic Group says the move could mean the cost of new cars in America rises by an average of £9,270, with manufacturers based in countries such as Mexico, Japan and Germany the worst affected.

And AA president Edmund King said the tariffs will also have a significant impact on the many UK-based companies.

"Car manufacturers dependent on a high proportion of sales in the US will be hardest hit and will lose sales," he said.
