Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had announced the arrival of important guests and a “big surprise”.
FEBRUARY 20 began with traffic jams in Kyiv. Normally this makes us angry but this time the roads closed in the centre of the capital pleased us.
We all hoped it would be the American President and we were not mistaken... Joe Biden came to Ukraine! He travelled 10 hours by train from Poland to Kyiv and spent just six hours there. But this short time was enough to go down in history.
Biden’s arrival destroyed any Russian propaganda that the USA no longer backs Ukraine.
Putin’s propagandist Sergey Mardan called Biden’s visit to Ukraine “a public humiliation of Russia”.
The very next day Putin went on to make a dramatic speech.
Russian national TV channels even started a countdown clock to emphasise the solemnity of the moment.
