Now it is crucial justice is finally done...and quickly
Sunday Express
|January 14, 2024
BRITAIN’S biggest miscarriage of justice in modern times continues. After a two-decade battle and victory in court five years ago, surely people could expect that the sub-postmasters’ long march for justice had come to its end. And yet, their struggle goes on.
It is a scandal that has disgusted a nation, still renowned around the world for its sense of fair play.
What a way to treat those men and women who were at the centre of our communities, providing vital services for us, day in and day out.
Hundreds were falsely accused of stealing money from their tills.
Many lost their homes and some were imprisoned.
But computer faults, known to the Post Office, were to blame.
Yet, here we are in 2024, with many sub-postmasters still waiting for redress. This national shame has already stolen years of the sub-postmasters’ lives. So, when will justice finally be done?
That is the question before the House of Commons Business and Trade Committee emergency session on Tuesday, to find out how postmasters can be fairly and fully compensated. Quickly.
In a terrible nightmare which conjures up dark visions of the worst show trials of totalitarian states, the evidence and arguments of sub-postmasters were ignored in court after court, again and again.
