It's the Silicon Valleys... data hotspots revealed

A REGIONAL breakdown of the capacity for data centres across Britain has revealed that Wales has become a “silicon valley”.

These huge warehouses housing the computers and storage systems needed to run artificial intelligence, data processing and streaming services, can use enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes for an hour.

London has the most capacity with 1,048 megawatts available, according to Government figures from last autumn.

But next is Wales, with 154 megawatts of energy available for data centres to use, followed by the South East with 128 and the South West with 53.

The East Midlands has the lowest capacity, with just nine megawatts.
