ANDERSON BACKS PAL PETER AFTER SURPRISE DEFEAT

GARY ANDERSON leads the charge of the senior citizens brigade today - and he warned snipers to lay off fellow two-time world champion Peter Wright.

While the 'Flying Scotsman' faces Jermaine Wattimena in the Paddy Power PDC World Championship third round after posting a handsome 105 average before Christmas, 'Snakebite' Wright crashed out against Arno Merk.

Former world No.1 Michael van Gerwen (right) gave a brutal assessment of Wright's form, chuntering "he's been playing c ** p lately and should retire".

But Anderson, who turned 55 last week, has jumped to the defence of his longtime Scotland World Cup sidekick.

He said: "You can't play well all the time - people think we're robots. When you have a bad couple of games, people say you're finished and you should retire, what's that all about?
