Driverless cars 'safer than human control'

CARS that drive themselves are coming to Britain's roads - but ministers are pledging they will be safer than those with human drivers.

MPs will tomorrow begin debating new laws allowing self-driving cars to operate.

The Government has added a measure to the Automated Vehicles Bill which will require every driverless car to be at least as good at navigating the roads as a "careful and competent driver".

And ministers say this will make them better than the "average" driver, because that includes motorists who drive while tired or fail to pay attention.
