Charge solution for electric cars parked on road

MOTORISTS without a driveway will be able to join the electric car revolution through plans to run cables under pavements so they can be plugged into home power supplies.

This will allow drivers to save up to £1,500 a year on running a petrol or diesel car by instead tapping into cheaper domestic electricity rates, as well as easing the hassle of finding a chargepoint.

The under-pavement cabling is designed to allow drivers to run their electric vehicles for as little as two pence a mile.

Amid the Government’s eco push, the £25million scheme is part of a £63million boost to help remove barriers to driving an EV. The number of chargepoints in the UK has hit 82,000, with a further 100,000 expected.
