CITY PLAYMAKER HERALDS RETURN WITH STAR DISPLAY

NEWCASTLE 2

MANCHESTER CITY 3

KEVIN DE BRUYNE only needed 20 minutes – but it was enough to give Manchester City the look of champions.

The Belgian superstar came off the bench to score an equaliser and then set up an injury-time winner for Oscar Bobb with a pass of exquisite brilliance as City cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to two points.

This could prove to be a definitive evening in the title race.

It was De Bruyne’s first Premier League appearance since undergoing surgery to repair the hamstring he ruptured on the opening weekend of the season.

But with City trailing and the clock ticking, he rose off the substitutes’ bench to turn the game for his team.

And the Blues still have Erling Haaland and John Stones to return.
