£2.5bn boost for steel

STEEL made in Britain should be used to build its new infrastructure, the minister in charge of the crisis-hit sector has declared.

Sarah Jones is set to activate a £2.5billion strategy to put the industry's dramatic decline into reverse, after learning only a third of the steel used in the UK is made in this country.

Global competition and high production costs are two key obstacles, while traditional steelmaking in Port Talbot, South Wales, ended last year when its last blast furnace closed.
