Mum tells of heartbreak at loss of 'little fighter' Lenny
Stockport Express
|April 23, 2025
EVEN-YEAR-OLD "little fighter" and "superhero" Lenny Jax tragically died on April 5 following a two-year courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable grade four brain cancer.
Sophie, his heartbroken mother, has now come forward to talk about the family's devastating experience and to raise crucial awareness about the symptoms of the brain tumour, which could often be dismissed as a viral infection or minor illness.
Lenny, a brave youngster from Stockport, endured numerous cycles of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and even a trial drug from the United States that weakened his bones.
His health struggles began in September 2022 with headaches and vomiting. He also experienced severe fatigue and difficulty waking up in the morning.
However, it was a routine eye test that finally revealed the devastating condition.
Within hours of the eye test findings, Lenny urgently underwent brain surgery at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, marking the commencement of a gruelling struggle for his loved ones, as they endeavoured to extend his life.
"He had started getting headaches and was being sick in the mornings," Sophie told the Express.
"He couldn't get up in the mornings and was exhausted.
"He had an eye test at school and they noticed his vision wasn't what it should have been so we were referred for another eye test but was told it could be at least six weeks, so I booked him in privately.
"They noticed the nerves at the back of his eyes were swollen. We went straight to Stepping Hill Hospital for a CT scan, where they found a tumour the size of an adult's fist on the right side of his brain.
"We were then sent to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for surgery on his brain.
"It had been just a straightforward eye test and within a few hours he had been taken to surgery. It was the worst 12 hours of my life."
The majority of the tumour was removed and sent off for testing.
Within two days the family were handed the most devastating news imaginable.
