It was a hat-trick of success for Stirling University athletes at the recent Scottish Student Sport Awards as those in the heat of action and those behind the scenes received their rewards.

Uni team take home a hat-trick of awards for top performances

Olympic swimmer Angharad Evans walked away with the Female Athlete of the Year prize and the university's high-performance swim coach, Bradley Hay, was also recognised with the Coach of the Year crown.

The Stirling success was topped off by the institution’s executive director of sport, Cathy Gallagher, being awarded the Honorary President's Medal at the celebration in Aberdeen.

For Evans, the award is justified recognition for a top year in the pool.

Itsaw her compete for Team GB at the Olympics in Paris, where she reached the 100m breaststroke final, finishing sixth. She also won silver as part of Britain’s 4x100m Medley Relay team at the World Aquatics Championships (short course).

During the season, she broke British short and long course records in the 100m Breaststroke - including at the National Championships where she won two gold medals.

She also shone for Stirling at British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) events, winning five gold and two silver medals.
